Holding luteolin tablets in palm of hand. Text: Luteolin Dosage: How Much To Take

Luteolin Dosage | How Much to Take

Luteolin — not to be confused with lutein — is a natural flavonoid associated with celery, radicchio, and green peppers, best known for its immune and brain-supporting wellness benefits.

Taking luteolin supplements is the most convenient and reliable way to get luteolin in your diet.

Our Neurogan Health Luteolin tablets contain 200 mg per serving, taking the guesswork out of supplementation — the range of luteolin supplementation can range between 50-300 mg depending on the individual's health goals.

Why is Dosing Luteolin Important?

Like all dietary supplements, luteolin is most effective when taken in the right amounts. Taking the right dose ensures you're getting enough to support your wellness goals, like immune health and cognitive health, without taking unnecessary risks that can lead to potential side effects like digestive upset.

How Much Luteolin Should You Take?

The dosage range of luteolin typically falls between 50 mg to 300 mg per day, depending on the person.

There's no universally recommended dose for luteolin supplements as it depends so much on the individual's body chemistry and goals.

However, people with target goals for supporting healthy inflammation or maintaining brain health as they age might want to reach higher dosages closer to 200 mg (which is often used in studies).

At Neurogan Health, our luteolin tablets are formulated with 200 mg per serving, a convenient mid-range dose suitable for most adults.

The Best Way to Take Luteolin

Luteolin is commonly available in tablets and powders, with pills being the most convenient for accurate dosing. For best results, take luteolin with a meal containing healthy fats, as flavonoids like luteolin are better absorbed when consumed with dietary fat.

Here’s a quick guide for taking luteolin:

  • Time of Day: Morning or early afternoon with a meal.

  • Form: Pills or powders are most effective when taken with food.

  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water to help with absorption.

And yes, luteolin can come from foods, but you don't get much, even with a well-balanced diet.

For context, you'd need to eat 5-6 plates of radicchio salad to get the equivalent luteolin serving as our luteolin tablet. I don't know about you, but no salad recipe in the world could get me to eat that much radicchio daily.

Luteolin Absorption and Efficacy

In foods, luteolin is often bound to sugar molecules (glycosides), which the body must break down before absorption. This process can reduce the bioavailability of luteolin from dietary sources.

Any form of Luteolin online will provide a consistent and higher dose of the compound than what you’d get from food. For example, consuming a 200 mg luteolin tablet is equivalent to eating several servings of luteolin-rich foods, which might not be practical in a daily diet.

A recent study published in Frontiers in Pharmacology looked at how luteolin might help with inflammation and stress caused by harmful molecules in the body.

Scientists found that luteolin worked well to calm down the body’s inflammatory signals and protect cells from damage. They also discovered that taking around 200 mg of luteolin per day was both safe and effective [1].

Even with that being said, you shouldn't solely rely on luteolin as a way to treat, cure, or mitigate diseases, as that's not their intention (nor are they FDA-approved for this). Supplements are just a great way to get more of the nutrient compounds you can find in food in a more concentrated and convenient manner.

Supplements usually contain luteolin in a more bioavailable form (aglycone luteolin), making it easier for the body to absorb. You can also find luteolin enhanced with bioavailability boosters, like piperine (from black pepper), which can significantly improve absorption.

When it comes to solubility, which can also affect how it's absorbed in the body, luteolin is fat-soluble, meaning it absorbs better when taken with healthy fats. Whether from food or supplements, pairing luteolin with a meal containing fats improves uptake.

How Much Luteolin Should I Take Daily?

Generally, the minimum dose for luteolin is about 50 mg per day, which is used for basic antioxidant support. The maximum daily dosage is 300 mg, as it's considered safe for most adults to tolerate. Going beyond this daily dosage can increase the risk of potential stomach upset.

Taking higher dosages of luteolin doesn't necessarily mean it'll work better or faster, what's more important is consistency.

Weight-Based Considerations for Luteolin Doses

Unlike some drugs and supplements, no weight-based guidelines exist for luteolin. However, we could probably assume that smaller individuals might benefit from doses closer to 50-100 mg. In contrast, average to larger individuals might want to consider doses at the higher end of the spectrum.

If you’re on medications, you should first consult with your healthcare professional to make sure that it's appropriate for your wellness regimen.

Dietary Dosage

While eating foods rich in luteolin is excellent for overall health, supplements can offer more precise benefits.

By taking luteolin in supplement form, you get a consistent dose that’s easy to measure, helping you target specific wellness goals like supporting healthy inflammation, antioxidant protection, and supporting brain function.

Our Luteolin tablets come in a reliable and consistent 200 mg dose, making it perfect for those new to luteolin or looking for a high-quality luteolin that doesn't break the bank.
